Our very own Susan Howell who ‘could barely run one mile 18 months ago’ is set to take on a 26-mile marathon, raising money for a children’s charity.

Susan, age 41, a Partner at Llys Cennen Solicitors will be running the gruelling Paris marathon on April 6 to raise money for the Children’s hospital for Wales, Noah’s Ark Appeal, a charity that helps sick and vulnerable children.

The mother of four has been training hard in the run-up to the big day, not just pounding the local pavements, but in the last year-and-a-half she has also taken on two half marathons in preparation.

“I’m completely serious about this, and although I wasn’t a very good runner barely able to run a mile, I’m now committed to the training and the half marathons have prepared me for my toughest challenge yet.”

Susan, who works at Ammanford, Llandeilo and Carmarthen based Llys Cennen Solicitors, has also approached Barclays Bank who agreed to match fund her total amount raised.

To increase that total the busy mum, with the help of her good friend Nicola McGrane, have also organised a charity night in Llandybie rugby club on March 21 with music and raffle prizes.

“I thought a charity night would be a great way to raise more money for the appeal, and I welcome any donations from local businesses as raffle prizes.”

Kind-hearted Susan will be funding the trip to Paris herself, saying she wouldn’t feel right taking money for her to take part, she wants all the money to go to the appeal.

“I am so grateful to everyone who has helped out, especially Nicola, and if anyone would like to sponsor me they can go to my Just Giving Page http://www.justgiving.com/Susan-Howell
